He caught the swell as it became a wave. Tons of water surged around him and he felt the force of the sea's lift. He angled up from his knees, stood balanced for a moment, and moved forward. Stepping from side to side, he slid the board to the left, down the face of the wave and into the curl, propelled forward like a fiberglass rocket.
